What does it take to run a successful practice?

What are the obstacles you have to face at different stages of your firm’s life?

Choosing firms of various scales, with different business approaches or styles, and by selecting a wide range of generations (30s to 80s), this series hopes to unveil the mysteries of how architecture is made around the world today, to understand the architecture of architecture.

INTERVIEW FRAMEWORK

  • How did your context influence the peculiar language of your practice? What did you decide to take from it and make it yourown or disregard and go against? Which other places have influenced your approach to space.

  • Besides sketches what forms of representation are most important for you, do you use, diagrams, or models a lot for example?How has this design process evolved over time and which design methods have you refined over the years to structure the work in yourpractice? How would you say the particularities of your design process influence the spatial qualities of your projects?

  • How did you develop an eye such as yours? Which other qualities do you think are important for a great architect? How doyou identify people who can grow within your company, what do you look for in the people leading your teams?

  • What kinds of experiences would you like people to have in your projects? How do you wish to affect their senses? Do youwish for them to feel warmth, light or depth, security or openness to the world? Which architectural devices do you use to make thesesensations happen, which materials, forms, textures, colors…?
